Story of the week: Man Nearly dies after being eaten allive by mice!

"The 89-year-old war veteran was found covered in blood and in a state of distress at the State Government-run Karingal nursing home at Dalby Hospital in Austrailia after he had been nearly gnawed to death by mice. Queensland Health blamed a widespread mouse plague, which it said was sweeping the Western Downs district.

The elderly man's daughter stated that the poor old fellow had been trying to brush the mice away as they continued chewing his ears, head and neck.He was so stressed that doctors put him on morphine to calm him down. He nearly died."

Castration Gone Bad!!

"A five-year-old hippopotamus named Lieber died in an Israeli safari park on Wednesday as he was being castrated by an international medical team.

A German veterinarian jumped up and down on the unconscious animal's 1.5-tonne body in an unsuccessful effort to restart Lieber's heart, which had stopped after a second dose of anaesthetic was administered to repair a torn suture.

Sagit Horowitz, a spokeswoman for the Ramat Gan Safari Park near Tel Aviv, said its hippo herd of 40 was the largest in captivity in the world and officials feared any further population growth could lead to aggression among the animals.

Four other males at the park survived their castration and another was scheduled to undergo the procedure later in the day, she said.

"The risk involved is very high, we knew (this) before we started," said Austrian vet Chris Walzer who came to Israel along with two colleagues, a German and Frenchman, to castrate the hippos, whose testicles are internal."

PLEASE DON'T BE A BULLY!

Reports are suggesting people who are bullied as children have twice the risk of having delusions, hallucinations or other psychotic symptoms as pre-teens as those who have not been bullied.

Bullying -- especially when it is severe or chronic -- can have serious consequences for some children, and may even act as a trigger for people who are genetically predisposed to schizophrenia.

Get To Know Me: Tree Man

Alright folks, it's that time again...Get to know the Tree Man, Dede.

35 year old Dede lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children, trying to care for them. Dede, a former fisherman, has an extraordinary skin condition: he has root like structures growing out of his body - branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body. He is known locally as ‘Tree Man’ and his condition has baffled local doctors for 20 years. In an attempt to earn a living to support his family, he is part of a circus troupe, displaying his Tree Man limbs along with others afflicted with skin deformities in ‘freak’ shows.
